Batch#01 - 19 Jan - Day 41 (Cos cycle #2 germinated! & GR Microgreens)

2nd Cycle of Cos/Romaine Lettuce Germinated! And the Start of Grand Rapids Microgreens Placed 1 seed each in eight pots on Tier 1, two days ago. And ALL of them germinated successfully after seemingly 3 days plus. Experience from the first seeding cycle suggests that this is slow. Important to note that the seeding took place in the evening, and the seeds were placed a little deeper than the usual "sprinkled over the leca balls" method. Wanted to find out if this will keep the Cos more anchored and upright.   Seems like pelleted seeds are a good investment. Since seeds usually expire 3 months after the seed package is opened. So what do we do with those plants that come in quantities like 2500?  Microgreens seem to be the obvious answer. Grand Rapid Microgreens Did a little research and came across this site on microgreens. Seems like quite a large variety of microgreens are edible. Lettuce family is one of them. So decided to try out the Grand Rapid from Yash's set. Dec...

Batch#01 - 13 Dec - Day 04

CR on Day 4. Pelleted seeds hits 100% germination.  GR are germinating well too. Looks like at least 80% germination.  RO is also hitting close to 100% germination.  BH is not germinating as well compared to the rest. 11/12 (92%) from BLH pelleted seeds. These are the ones on the right side. Only 4 sprouts from the Yash seeds that was sprinkled over the 6 pots on the left.  Nonetheless, a good experience thus far. Pelleted BH seems to have far higher germination %. EC1040 - interesting to note the increase in EC. Could be due to evaporation of water. Water level has dropped to almost the min level.  pH7.3 - is consistent. Action Top up with 1L of nutrient mix, with the following EC400 and pH6.8 from the balance from Day 0. Find that the water level did not change by much.  Added another 1L. Added 2 drops of pH down and brought the pH from 7.8 to 3.5. Did not add any ABC since initial EC1040.  ...

Batch#01 - 12 Dec 20 - Day 03

CR. Both unpelleted and pelleted seeds germinating at the same rate.  GR. Germinating very well. May have overcrowding issue later on. A good problem.  RO: Germinating but slower than the rest.  BH: Germinating as well. Seem to be same rate as RO.  EC920 - Good start value I think. Within the 800 - 1200 range for lettuce. It is staying consistent, as expected since germination should not be taking in any nutrients at all.  pH7.3 Very slightly alkaline. Not sure. If this is a cause for concern. Still lower than typical tap water pH7.7, so I guess that's good.  Another observation is leca balls at the top are drying out. Will leave it as it is for the time being.
