Batch#01 - 02 Jan - Day 24

The Day After

The day after the thinning out and topping up of nutrients and water. All the kiddos look to be doing well. None the worse for wear! Perhaps maybe the Grand Rapids... looking a little forlorn and lonely!

Cos/Romaine:
A little trivia. What is the difference between a Cos or Romaine lettuce?

According to https://www.lovemysalad.com/salapedia/romaine-or-cos-lettuce, Romaine lettuce is the term more often used in the USA to describe a Cos lettuce. Typically it is a tall lettuce with long slender leaves and at maturity forms an elongated cupped 'heart'.

The leaves have quite a prominent and thicker rib through the centre, are generally more robust with a unique crisp taste that differentiates Cos from other lettuce.

These guys are on average about 20cm long. (6")

For the time being, will keep the cup to cover the mini sprouts. Now the lollas. A close-up of the tip burn like of the cotyledons. Interesting to see that the lolla young leaves are relatively tender and thin compared to Cos. DATA EC1532 pH5.83 WT29 Water level: at mid level.
