10 Days after Seeding

Majority of the sprouts survived the Transplanting... Although a few did succumb, in particular the Red Oaks, which seem to grow more slowly compared to the rest.

This little guy on the left is so not going to make it. The one on the right is incidentally Lettuce 211.

The roots are shorter. I could have left the sprouts to grow a few more days. So next time, for RO, instead of 5 days, perhaps a full week, before Transplanting.

Lettuce 211 seem to be growing very well. First time growing this. Wonder if it could be the freshness of the seeds.

Good values. Will add a little more AB tomorrow to up the EC.

Another observation, plants do really grow bigger after a good dark night "sleep". Comparing morning and evening, the growth is not markedly different, but just a 8 hours of darkness, really spurred the growth. So just like people, a good night rest is essential for healthy growth!

Oh, I moved some L211 that are growing as twin in one same pot intonthose which are empty. Moved 4. Let's see how these fare.

And note to self, the L211 are also occupying one or two spots in other tiers.

Batch#01 - 26 Dec - Day 17

Boxing Day Wondergreens Greens are growing great and with the state of the GR, I am thinking of thinning them out tomorrow. Get the younger ones, one each per pot for brekkie salad. Tier 1: CR Leaves are deep green in colour, a slight contrast to the usual romaine that we have for salad from the markets. All looking healthy though. Another observation, the leaves are open. Tier 2: GR Observed some minor tip burns, but not too many to be of concern for aesthetics. Tier 3: RO The leaves are losing the reddishness. The pace of growth is slower than both the CR and GR. To take note of this when planning for sustainable supplies. Internet sources suggest that maturity is between 45 to 60 days. Tier 4: BH Growing well too. No burn tips. Judging from plant size (diameter and height), growth rate seems to be just a little slower compared to GR and CR. Data EC1200 - Nice! 21/11 Bok Choi update

21 Nov, marks the 22 days after transfer of BC sprouts to the system. Growing well with EC ars 1400. Simple to maintain and seems to be pest free. Spacing them out also allows the lower leaves to get enough light to grow well with little yellowing and hence waste. It's a no wonder that many hydroponics producers are into bok chois. Easy to grow and taste pretty sweet and crunchy. My helper mentioned an interesting observation when I said that the BC are ready for harvest in 2 days. From someone who cooks regularly and with longer experience handling greens, she observed that sometimes the BC she purchased from the shop has a not-so-good smell to them. She suspect that this could be due to the freshness of the supply. And it's hard to tell from the packaging cause the green "look fresh" This suggested the need/importance of having microfarm model, similar to that of energy microgrid, to ensure fresh produce is accessible to everyone. Batch 2 - Transplanting L211

Transplanted L21 for experience Added 20ml of A B into T2 and 4. Initial EC shows 340. Switched on air pump and increased the flow rate. Will check EC tmrw. Decided to learn by experience how to transplant the little sprouts into the pool noodle. Not easy admittedly and also there is this lack of confidence that the roots are long enough to reach the water level sufficiently. Pressed the noodle until its almost flushed to the base in order to let the roots reach the water surface. Seems like 8 days after seeding will produce roots averaging 3-4cm long. Let's see what happens tomorrow. Recover well from the trauma of being moved lil ones.
